Elmer has spent his fair share of time on the battlefield. But these days, what really gives him excitement is battling hot steel with a hammer as a blacksmith. He enjoys hand forging functional edged tools and brings over 40 years of experience to the Forged by War® program. Axes, froes, hatchets, and historical replicas, such as Viking axes, are his specialty. Though his designs look modern, they’re actually based on tools and implements that go back thousands of years.

Elmer Roush's charity of choice for the following axe designs - Freya™ (2749), the Freyr™ (2746), and the Odr™ (2753) is the Green Beret Foundation. The Green Beret Foundation, honors our commitment to Green Berets past and present by providing Special Forces Soldiers and their families with emergency, immediate, and ongoing support.

Established in 2016, the Forged by War® program spearheaded a collaboration between CRKT and Veterans, inviting real life warriors to apply their knowledge and experience to design a specialty line of mission-ready knives and tools. In addition to receiving commission on their designs, a portion of the profits are donated to the Veterans’ charity of choice. CRKT is proud to offer this dedicated collection to support the participating charities on a national level.
