When things start to go sideways, the time to prepare has passed. If there’s anyone that has a completely unique view of preparedness, it’s designer Tom Stokes. As a mechanical engineer, he’s well equipped to rethink and imagine tools that become critical to a survivalist pack. The Knife Maintenance Tool—equipped with two sharpeners and two sizes of TORX—is one of those tools.

Tom Stokes dreamt up the jam-packed Knife Maintenance Tool and brought it to life using CAD software in his Williamsburg, Virginia hometown. Small enough to fit on a keychain, it has a ceramic honing edge and a compact tungsten carbide sharpener that are compatible with nearly every folding knife in existence. Two folding TORX tools (T8 and T6) can remedy loose pivot nuts, pocket clip screws, and back spacer screws. A covert flathead screwdriver and a bottle opener come in handy when prying open food containers and cracking open a cold one at the end of a mission accomplished.

So lightweight you’ll hardly know you’re carrying it. Until you desperately need it.

Whenever Tom hears someone say, “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to make a knife,” he’ll quickly correct them. After all, having been involved in the aerospace industry for more than 25 years, he brings a unique perspective to our tools using CAD software and rapid prototyping technology. It has resulted in multi-tools that are a rare combination of artistic form and function, such as the CRKT® Tool, Iota™, Paracord Survival Bracelets, and useful survival bracelet accessories.
