CRKT M16® Knife Story: Trusted in Iraq and Beyond

When David Jacobs, a retired Marine Corps veteran from Oregon, deployed to the Middle East in the early days after 9/11, uncertainty was part of the job. The mission was evolving, timelines were unclear, and the environment demanded constant awareness. In that kind of setting, the gear you carry matters. Before deploying, David picked up his first M16® knife. It stood out for its simplicity, durability, and the confidence it gave him heading into the unknown.

Out in the field, that confidence proved justified. The M16® became part of his daily routine and something he relied on without hesitation as operations took him from place to place. It was easy to maintain, quick to deploy, and dependable when it mattered most. In an environment where small failures could turn into real consequences, having a tool that simply worked was not just helpful. It was necessary.

Over time, both David and his knife began to show the effects of where they had been. “We lost some of our shine,” he wrote, reflecting on the years that followed. “But we stayed sharp and ready for the mission.” The knife made it through Iraq and countless operations after, carrying the marks of use without ever losing its purpose.

Today, long after his military service, David still carries that connection with him. He has added more M16® knives to his collection, but that original still means something different. It represents a time, a place, and a level of trust that is not easily replaced. For David, it was never just a knife. It was something he could count on when it mattered most, and something he continues to carry forward.
