Ready to strike at a moment’s notice. When a paratrooper is stuck on a static line, every millisecond counts. That’s the high-stakes situation that inspired the Taco Viper®, an Assisted Opening knife that springs to action in the blink of an eye.

Antonio Rodriguez designed the Taco Viper® based on his first-hand experience as a soldier in the 82nd Airborne, modeling it after jumpmaster and other knives carried throughout the division's history. It puts the heavy-duty cutting capabilities of those blades into a tactical folding knife that’s suitable for everyday carry. Held securely in place by a sturdy liner lock, the long blade features extended Veff Serrations™ that give the knife its signature rope-cutting ability. An optional sheath and coiled tether keep the knife secure in the windy cabin of a plane during jump operations, while the deep-carry clip ensures a comfortable pocket fit for everyday carry.

Rodriguez named the knife as a callback to his unit, which began referring to itself as Taco Viper® after a tongue-in-cheek comment about the snakes that would seek out leftovers from “Taco Tuesday” dinners in Afghanistan. While the unit no longer bears that name, Rodriguez made sure it would live on in the Taco Viper® knife.

How Assisted Opening Works
It's held securely closed in your pocket, but initiate the deployment, and part way through the rotation the blade opens at impressive speed for simple, powerful, one-handed opening.

How Veff Serrations™ Work
Veff Serrations™ are the alternative to standard triple point serrations. The unique Veff Serration™ pattern on our knives creates angled teeth that feed material into the cut as you pull. Think of it like multiple guillotines all set to glide through fibrous materials with surgical precision. They're easy to sharpen and they work better than traditional serrations.

About the Forged By War® Program

In 2013, Ryan Johnson of RMJ Tactical, designer of elite, military, tactical tomahawks, approached CRKT® with the news that he had been working with a few combat veterans that had returned from war with varying degrees of post-traumatic stress (PTS).

To help work through their challenges, they have been designing and forging steel into custom tools. Drawing from their experience earned in combat situations, they have been creating tools they wished they had available to them in the battlefield.

CRKT® cares deeply about our returning veterans and we saw a way to give back to the community that created them. In 2016, we launched the Forged By War® program.

These are mission ready tools, designed by veterans, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the veterans' charity of choice.

Antonio Rodriguez's charity of choice for this knife is the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation.

Antonio chose the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation as the charity of choice for his knife due to the inspired way the organization works with the community it serves, and the goal of completing a war memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for national reflection and posterity. A goal worthy of our collective support.
