Russ made a custom hunting knife for one of his good friends. Somehow through the years that knife became known as Grandpa's Favorite. Now you can get a knife that is nearly identical to Russ's custom knife from CRKT®.

The blade is short enough that you can work inside the animal and feel where you are at all times." The skinner has a full-tang fixed blade of 12C27 Sandvik stainless steel with stainless steel bolsters, both mirror polished for ease of cleaning. Blade length is 3.15". Model 2845 features traditional stag scales with brass pins.

The sheath Russ designed makes this knife even more unique with the extra pouch. Russ explains: "For me, a horizontal sheath makes getting around easier. It doesn't interfere with your rifle or back pack, and it's not always banging the bush plane or fouling the pack horse rope. I never carry a box of shells out of camp . . . usually just a magazine and the two cartridges in my sheath. They won't rattle around, and the pockets will handle ammunition from .243 up to .338.

No matter what happens, you'll always have those two shells to get you home.

To say Russ is an outdoorsman is a bit of an understatement. A professional fishing and hunting guide, he started making knives when one of his clients brought him a custom knife and dressed an entire moose—without sharpening it. Since then he’s made it his duty to build the kind of tools only he would use. It just so happens his Bear Claw’s™, and Hoist’N Lok®, are the kinds other hunters use as well.
