K.I.S.S.® written out is "Keep It Super Simple" and this knife rings true. It's modeled after the late Ed Halligan's original design and built with only two major components: the blade simply sits against the frame. As the story goes, Ed first etched this design on an airplane napkin while flying home from a knife show. Today, there are many copycats, but Ed's re-mains the only true original.
Ed, who was based in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, is remembered by those who knew him during his years of service working on planes for the US Air Force and Delta Airlines. He's deeply missed within the knife community and will live on in his enduring influence on CRKT® and the industry as a whole. We honor his memory the best we know how—with a limited edition, carefully reconstructed version of his groundbreaking design.
We didn't take the recreation of this classic design lightly. The blade is made with premium Damasteel® Damascus steel which consists of RWL34 and PMC27 steel twisted together. The handle is made of remarkably lightweight titanium, and features a frame lock for safety. Finally, the Damascus Hugin Pattern on the plain-edge blade ties the look together in a way that would have suited Ed's minimalist taste, but stands out boldly in-hand.
It's a knife that does its part to remember one of the greats while reminding us why we're so proudly CRKT®.
Ocean Springs, Mississippi
The second knifemaker to ever work with us, “Big Daddy K.I.S.S.” knew his way around CRKT® headquarters and a 747. After years using tools as an aircraft mechanic, Ed founded Halligan Knives in 1985. He went on to earn a Mastersmith rating from the American Bladesmithing Society and invented the often imitated, never duplicated, legendary, K.I.S.S.® (Keep it Super Simple) knife series. Ed passed in 2014. His immeasurable contribution to knife-craft is greatly celebrated…and deeply missed.
