When a series like Kit Carson's aluminum-handled line has been so successful, it is bound to spark calls for variations. In this case, the request was for a deep-bellied spear point blade with recurve. We call the hefty M21-04 and M21-14 models with 3.875" blades, "Big Dogs."
The swedged and recurved blade is ground to a spear point shape, using premium AUS 8 stainless steel in non-reflective frost finish to offer superior edge retention. The grind incorporates a false top edge and deep belly, yet retains a full width central spine for most of its length for maximum strength. We offer both Razor-Sharp and Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edge grinds.
Teflon® bearings at the blade pivot assure velvety-smooth one-hand opening and closing, using Kit Carson's trademark dual checkered thumb studs which also act as a blade stop.
M21™ models feature the very popular "Carson Flipper" blade extension, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.
Kit Carson's open build uses contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized charcoal gray. They are CNC machined with a perimeter radius for a comfortable grip with or without work gloves, skeletonized to reduce weight. There is a single stainless steel locking liner with friction grooves for positive locking.
We have also incorporated our patented* AutoLAWKS™ automatic knife safety into all M21 models, which converts them into virtual fixed blades when their blades are open and locked.
Every model features a removable Teflon®-plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip. All fasteners, including the clip screws, are Torx®.
So there you have it. If you love the Carson line, but your work tasks demand a deep-bellied blade, the M21 is the series for you. Same premium build, same functional features, same long life, same excellent value.
*U.S. Patent Nos. 5,596,808 and 7,437,822

this knife is a true work horse. a friend bought this knife for me knowing that i am the pickiest of knife collectors. i appreciate good solid construction. i have used this knife for chores like consistently cutting through realy thick coarse cardboard.in comparison zdp189 has more carbon than any steel i have seen on my charts and rates at a higher hrc, but this particular forging of the aus8a in the m21-04 has superior edge retention to the zdp189 that spyderco uses. i actually removed the LAWK and replaced my teflon bearings with ancient chinese bronze coins(to improve on perfection)though it's not quite as smooth of an action, but nonetheless unique. i as the proud owner of knives of most all the top notch knife makers give this company my 5 out of 5 star mark of approval. thanks crkt

4 Stars. Great blade shape for big game cleaning and all field craft needs. Though large size, it is not obtrusive clipped inside a jeans pocket. Opens without effort and locks in solid. Only drawback is the smooth aluminum handles are slippery when wet. If you want to use in the rain, clean your fish, or field prep big game, I'd go with the G10 handles.

Beautiful knife. Opens like a dream. Blade design operates well. Low profile aluminum handle fits for carry nicely. Now if Kit Carson could make me this identical knife with a fully veff serrated blade.....now we are talking

I've owned knives for over 50 years, starting with that old standard, the Boy Scout issue, so I know my working knives. The Carson Design M21-14 is superb in every respect, far better than the Bucks and Gerbers I've owned in the past. I picked up the demonstrator from the glass case at the store, opened it, closed it, and bought it. It felt that good right off the bat, and the quality construction was obvious. No need to compare with the other items in the case. It's sized perfectly for my hand (not intentionally, of course, but still, that's a real plus) and is a real, heavy duty, WORKING knife that can take hard use. It opens beautifully and locks positively and is smooth and easy to operate one-handed in both opening and closing.
