Today's tactical fixed blade knives still resemble the first Bronze Age daggers of 4000 years ago, especially in their handle design. Michael Martinez, sculptor, inventor, and martial artist, didn't start out to redesign the fixed blade, but he explains, "In my edged weapons training, I kept noticing how many knives didn't feel right, didn't have a grip that gave both control and comfort in the four fundamental tactical grips." Michael's design firm, Group Design, Inc., reached out to a team of medical specialists for the answer. Their Ultima™ achieves 22 out of 23 ideal contact points with its unique patent-pending handle.
The injection-molded black glass filled nylon scales feature over 70 triangular grip segments, separated by sipes, or "ooze grooves" which channel away water, mud and oil. Horizontal grooves are placed under the fingertips for optimum feel.
Because tactical knives are inevitably used as pry bars, Michael's team created a butt pry tip as an extension of the blade tang, with a rounded tip.
The larger Ultima models feature 6.75" full-tang blades of 1.4116 stainless steel with a light bead-blast finish. They are available with Razor-Sharp or Combination Razor-Sharp and Veff™ Serrated edges.
Serrated models feature our patented* Veff™Serrated edges. Developed by Oregon City, Oregon, knife designer Tom Veff, these serrations are wide and angled at 60° to the edge. The resulting cutting points bite instantly and dig deep upon contact, slicing smoothly and effortlessly. They give dramatically improved cutting ability on rope, webbing, strapping, hoses and leather.
Tactical Sheath. The Ultima's custom black high-strength nylon fabric/glass filled nylon sheath has an injection-molded liner. Dual belt loops are Velcro® adjustable. For maximum versatility, there are ample grommets with a length of 550 paracord included, an adjustable leg strap, plus a slotted sheath back that can mount on MOLLE gear. Removable security handle straps with snaps give access and security. A utility pocket with a Fastex™ buckle will carry a variety of folding knives, multipurpose tools or sharpeners.
After 4,000 years of scientific progress, the only thing the Ultima shares with its bronze ancestors is its role in the mission.

I received my Ultima 7" w/Veff 4/21/2010 (today) and all I can say is "AWESOME" I've been wanting a good quality knife to take on short expeditions and.......Thanks, I found it It fits my hand like a glove and has exceptional grip. The blade was fairly sharp and with just a couple of minutes of fine honing I was shaving hair off my arm The sheath appears to be of good quality and the thigh strap and paracord show that you put alot of thought into it. I was indecisive whether to get the Veff serrations but.....WOW...cuts fabulously Thanks for making a product that I feel good spending my money on. Keep up the good work and I will continue to buy your products.
Thanks,
Regis Good

I am currently serving as an Army Combat Advisor in Afghanistan. I carry my 7" Ultima combo blade on my leg next to my M9 every day. I have Owned this knife for about two years and it is still as sharp as the day I bought it. I use it all the time and I feel safer with it as a back up blade. I just ordered two more of your knives online, the M60 OEF and the M21 SF combo. Thanks for offering such quality weapons and tools for the Military as well as the average citizen.
Keep up the good work

I have a lot of knives, Gerber, Cold Steel, SOG and others. They're all good knives, but the Ultima 7 that I received today just may be the best of all. The quality is first rate and the over all design is some of the best work I have ever seen. The knife is one piece of steel from point to pommel and the shape of the blade is a thing of beauty. Get this knife You will be very happy that you did.

This knife is a great knife. I realy love the way it fits in my hand and the weight is just right. The grip is very will designed. The sheath is very good as well, I like the extra pocket it can hold a lot of diffrant things from a stone to keep it razor-sharp to holding a magazine for a sidearm. Keep up the good work. Thank you, Tommy D
