2395 description
Raleigh Tabor is a bit of a perfectionist and has a "feel for the steel." After a long career as an autobody man, he became a custom knifemaker. He says, "I became interested in gadgets. I tried to incorporate several tools into one slim and trim tool that would be easily accessible and useful."

The result is the SpareTool, a simple and honest new offering from CRKT.

Starting with a Razor-Sharp Wharncliffe fixed blade from 5Cr15MoV stainless steel bar stock, Raleigh has also incorporated a pry bar/nail puller, bottle opener, ruler scales in inches and millimeters, a file edge, and a 6 mm wrench which also serves to drive the included double-ended flat and Phillips screwdriver hex bit. The bit is stored in the molded glass filled nylon retainer.

The injection-molded glass filled nylon sheath has a detent which locks it securely to the finger choil so the blade is fully protected when using the other tool functions.

The detent also allows inverted carry with a lanyard. A removable belt clip allows carry on belts, webbing and straps.

All in all, it's a handy and useful precision-built gadget that will appeal to every craftsman and outdoorsman. It's just a few ounces in the pocket or pack, but it makes an ideal utility and survival tool.

Great multi tool, I got several of them for my groomsmen. They will make excellent additions to everyone's truck and allow them to fix many small problems on the fly. The only part I would alter would be to find a way to keep the driving bit held in the handle when using it on screws.

This knife tool has a lot of potential, but I find the chisel grind on the left more friendly for left hand use and not so friendly for a right handed user like myself. Would love to see this with a "V" grind making equally adept for use with either hand.

Excellent value for the $$. Lightweight, versatile carry system, essential simplified tools. It's simple yet aggressive when needed. Atwood....Eat your heart out VALUE is the key here and there is no contest with many of the other multitools in the same category. Why do I put the SpareTool in the same category with the likes of Atwood? To prove, value over status will prevail. Great job Raleigh and CRKT Home Run

I bought 2 of these, 1 for me and 1 for a friend. Tough, well designed little tool. The blade is plenty sharp, so be careful taking it out of the sheath. We both use it for our EDC and has come in handy. The nail puller also is great for striping wire. The included bit is great for loosening or tightening screws and the opening for the bit can be used as a 1/4 inch box end wrench. Again well designed, and tough. Another unique CRKT product Kevin 2011-01-09 Valdosta, GA

Just received the tool today. Removed the belt clip. The tool fits in the back pocket of my jeans. Blade seems sharp but I am puzzled by the bevel on the edge. I can't tell if it is supposed to be a single bevel or a double bevel. I was a little concerned that one of the sharp edges would catch on the pocket of my jeans but it hasn't so far and I am sitting down now. I may fasten the sheath to a joist behind my workbench and have the tool handy at the workbench rather than in my back pocket all the time. That will require a test of time. I don't see it as a belt carried tool but my mind is not made up in that regard. Chuck

I bought this new tool for my husband who is a big CRKT fan( me too) His fave EDC is a CRKT folder. It looks like we will get a lot of use for it and since it is his stocking stuffer he can use it out of the box to open up his other gifts.

great tool, puzzling sheath. I'm certainly a fan of CRT and own a heck of a lot of their products. And I'm a gadget freak so the tabor has been on my list of great things to watch for, for quite a while. I like the tool but the sheath leaves me puzzled. It's got an adjustible clip but considering the nature of the tool, the sheath needs to be instantlty detachable and it's not. a better sheath could have made this a great tool.

What a handy tool I keep it in my truck and am always finding a use for it. Clever design and well constructed. I look foward to other offering from Mr. Tabor.

Cut off the blade, drill in a small lanyard hole, maybe add a safety blade inside the bottle opener and you got a winner for sure
