1166K description
Young knifemaker Gerry McGinnis is not well known– yet– in the cutlery world. But he will be when the word gets out about his new production CRKT Summa knife designs. These locking liner folders offer the materials and quality usually found only in custom knives costing many times as much.

As an engineering student in college, Gerry thought these CRKT designs should be named after words that are foremost on his mind right now.

The Summa T 1166K is a sleek, full-size folder with a 3.75" drop point blade of 8Cr14MoV stainless steel with a very high hollow grind and tactical black titanium nitride coating for maximum corrosion resistance. For fast either-hand opening, just press the flipper.

The knife comes with our exclusive combination patented* Veff Serrations for fastest cutting through rope, twine, netting, and vegetation.

Summa models feature an open InterFrame build with stainless steel liners, hand-shaped black and blue layered polished resin impregnated fiber scales, and a rigid glass filled nylon back spacer. The liners and custom removable stainless steel clip receive a blue titanium nitride coating, for an effect that is cool and understated.

At CRKT, we have never produced a knife based on eye-appeal alone, but the Summa's graceful and sinuous shape, almost uninterrupted by studs or hardware, is one of the most attractive we have ever manufactured. Everything is just right: look, feel, balance and grip.

*U.S. Patent No. D559,939

Beem carrying this piece for a month now, and could not be happier with the quality good job, and build, as well as the design. Fits the hand like it was custom made and opration is a breeze. Saw in the catalog that came with the watch there is a smaller version in the works, and I look froward to adding it as well. Well done, young man.

I bought this knife a month ago, mostly for the looks ( I have tons of workhorse, survival and tactical knives.)and to see how the Veff serrations work. I use various pocket knives at work to cut plastic, rope, cardboard, etc

I bought this knife to replace an m16-13zm that I had gifted, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The blade opens just as well and doesn't have any unnecessary bells, or whistles. the serration style is truly an improvement upon the traditional pattern and the handle fits into my hand as if I was born to hold it. The blue accents to the design are a lovely touch that make this knife a perfect gift for ANYONE that needs a good, trustworthy tool. i've already gifted one to a female friend and have recommended it to two other people. i will continue to recommend this model.

I bought this knife about a month ago, and have truly fallen in love with it. The scales are beautiful, as is the blue anodized frame. Very smooth and fast flipper action. The veff serrations are simply amazing. They tear through cord, boxes, anything really with ease. The blade has no vertical play, and very slight side-to-side play when opened, but I just need an allen key small enough to fix that. Solid build quality, extremely sharp blade, and slick looks add up to a very well rounded EDC, at a price that you can't beat.

Always a good value for the money, CRKT knives used to be a bit heavy clunky. The light elegant Summa works as smoothly as any Al Mar or Benchmade, still at a third the cost. Every knife is a tool, executing a specific function or multiple tasks. Doing a single job, the purpose built design will always out perform a general use tool. Thus James Williams' Hissatsu folder will do better incapacitating a foe with a single stab than any Swiss Army knife will. But how often do I kill somebody? As a versatile every day carry, the Summa is remarkable. A large folder that fits my hand, it is also slim, smooth, quick to open, safe to handle, easy to clean, sharp and tough. Weak tips? This one will slice up burlap or cut a chicken quickly, but please, buy an axe to chop down trees

very fast little blade...good feel...nice edge, the tips on the serrated portion are a bit on the weak side...the tips have actually been shaved off due to usage, BUT, the serrated portion still cuts flawlessly...aside from the tips on serrated portion...i am happy with the purchase. still worth what i paid...no doubt this kid has some talent...have received compliments on the look and speed of this knife more than any other knife i've owned...
