Custom knife maker and Knife makers' Guild member Kit Carson is widely known for his M16® design, which we offer in many CRKT production models. But since 1990, Kit's most consistent selling custom model has been his classic M4™. In his usual unassuming manner, Kit says, "I guess you'd say it's my flagship custom. It's simple, with form following function. No tricks that look slick but aren't worth a flip in your hand. I've made many variations on it, from exotic collectibles to working tacticals, in maybe 20 versions. But I still get more and more calls to make the M4."
This year we're offering the M4 design in Kit's smaller every day carry (E.D.C.) size.
The M4™-02S Stag is a deluxe model which has a traditional look with stag scales and brushed stainless steel bolsters.
While we were engineering it, we decided to add some more value by offering our OutBurst® assisted opening, and our patented* LAWKS safety, the Lake and Walker Knife Safety innovation. LAWKS® sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use. To engage the safety, push the LAWKS® lever forward. To close the knife, pull the LAWKS® lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position.
The OutBurst mechanism instantly springs the blade fully open after you have opened the blade approximately 30 degrees. M4 models have dual thumb studs for ambidextrous one-hand opening and bronze bearings and lubrous washers at the adjustable blade pivot for smooth, fast action.
The 3.25" blade is a high-hollow-grind drop point of premium 8Cr13MoV stainless steel in a bead-blast finish with a Razor-Sharp edge.
Our heavy-duty InterFrame build is true to Kit's design, with dual stainless steel liners, one locking, and a stainless steel back spacer.
The M4™-02S Stag is a deluxe model which has a traditional look with stag scales and brushed stainless steel bolsters, plus our innovative LAWKS®, the Lake and Walker Knife Safety innovation. LAWKS® sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use. To engage the safety, push the LAWKS® lever forward. To close the knife, pull the LAWKS® lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position..
All M4 models have high-mounted pocket/gear clips.
So here you have a friendly E.D.C. knife that fits the hand naturally for all kinds of cutting and carving tasks. Like Kit, it's a bit unassuming, but it's a knife you'll come back to year after year.
Just received my new M4-02S and am overall very happy with my purchase. Sharp blade and great style. The only complaint I have is how difficult it is to open the knife - is there a way to loosen/adjust it as it takes 2 hands to open because the mechanism is incredibly stiff. ** CRKT** - this knife is typically stiff to open out of the box but will loosen up with use. If you continue to have that issue, you can try loosening the pivot screw slightly. If that doesn't work, contact our customer service department and we will take care of it for you.

I have two of these knives - one in burl wood and one in red stag. The knife is solid, well-built, and sharp. One of these knives I've had for more that two years and used it daily without a single issue. I'll have to say that I like the red stag classic look the best. Great knife

Like many of you I love the classic design with the modern features. However, it just doesn't work. The screws come loose almost immediately. It's heavy and chunky in the pocket. The jimping is nice for about 5 minutes of heavy use, then it turns into a series of needles that leave two deep gouges in your thumb. Worst of all is the blade play. Mine swings wildly to each side- nowhere near solid, almost like the blade will snap right off with any light pressure. I'm not convinced that mine is the only one that does this. Sacrificing durability for flashy opening isn't worth it. At 1st I convinced myself I liked it just to ease the blow of spending over $80 on crap. I notice that many reviews occur within this period. A year later it's at the bottom of my drawer, not a worker. Pretty though. ***CRKT Response: We appreciate your feedback and we're sorry to hear about the problems you've had. We will do our best to make it right by reaching out to you directly to resolve the issues with your knife. We stand behind our products and we've had many positive reviews on this knife. Thanks again, CRKT.

The perfect marriage of modern meets traditional folder design.
I've had this knife for two months now and have found it to be an excellent piece of craftsmanship.
The knife is comfortable to use and to carry for everyday use. It feels right.
The combination of a modern folder with the OutBurst Assist / Lawks Safety, robust construction and the traditional styling of a rugged yet artistic old school traditional folder is not only unique but a truly ingenious blend of both function and aesthetics. This knife fills a very important spot in my collection and I've yet to find anything that can match it. I love my traditional folders and my modern assisted opening knives. Now I have one that fills both desires. Thank you CRKT and a proud salute to Mr. Kit Carson.

I purchased my M4-02S knife roughly 6 weeks ago , lost it for a week , then thankfully found it under the seat of my truck . I use and abuse knives , and basically wear one out when i get one i like . This knife handles well and is very solid . I have probably opened and shut mine a thousand times or so since i use it many times during the day as a boxing , label cutting , prying, and multi cut tool at the business i work at . I wish i would have had this knife years ago when i used to gut the white tail deer we used to shoot , it would have been excellent for that purpose . The screws on the handle have backed off so i purchased a t6 bit and keep them snug as needed .
Very nice , good handler , sharp and cuts well , love the quick flip and lock mechanism .
Job Well Done

I am very pleased with this knife. The quality and craftsmanship is evident in every part of the knife. The blade holds an edge better then any other knife I have owned. I would definitely recommend this knife.

I like this knife a lot it is now my go to knife. The assist takes a little getting use to, but not a big deal. Came super sharp and is easy to resharpen. My screws also came loose but again no big deal. The handles are really nice high Quality a very well built knife should last for years. 5 stars

I really like this knife. It's solid and well constructed and arrived with a nice, sharp edge. Some strength is required to actually flip the knife open, but once you get used to it it's no problem. I would have given it a 5 star, but I had to do some tightening of the screws already. The blade screw, the thumb "knob" and one of the handle screws all came loose within 2 weeks, with only light use. I re-tightened them and they seem okay now. If they come loose again I'll apply a bit of Loc-Tite. A bit disappointing but not enough so that I wouldn't recommend it to someone else. I'll be purchasing from CRKT again, for sure.***CRKT RESPONSE - Thank you for your feedback. We do recommend on our website that Blue Loctite works the best for keeping your knife maintained (clip screws/other screws). We Blue Loctite them at the factory level. Let us know if you continue to have an issue, thank you. CRKT
