M4-02W description
Custom knife maker and Knife makers' Guild member Kit Carson is widely known for his M16® design, which we offer in many CRKT production models. But since 1990, Kit's most consistent selling custom model has been his classic M4. In his usual unassuming manner, Kit says, "I guess you'd say it's my flagship custom. It's simple, with form following function. No tricks that look slick but aren't worth a flip in your hand. I've made many variations on it, from exotic collectibles to working tacticals, in maybe 20 versions. But I still get more and more calls to make the M4."

This year we're offering the M4 design in Kit's smaller every day carry (E.D.C.) size.

The M4-02W Burled Wood is a deluxe model with burled wood scales and brushed stainless steel bolsters. It's a very classy look.

While we were engineering it, we decided to add some more value by offering our patented OutBurst® assisted opening, and our patented* LAWKS®, the Lake and Walker Knife Safety innovation. LAWKS® sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use. To engage the safety, push the LAWKS® lever forward. To close the knife, pull the LAWKS® lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position.

The OutBurst mechanism instantly springs the blade fully open after you have opened the blade approximately 30 degrees. M4 models have dual thumb studs for ambidextrous one-hand opening and bronze bearings and lubrous washers at the adjustable blade pivot for smooth, fast action.

The 3.25" blade is a high-hollow-grind drop point of premium 8Cr13MoV stainless steel in a bead-blast finish with a Razor-Sharp edge.

Our heavy-duty InterFrame build is true to Kit's design, with dual stainless steel liners, one locking, and a stainless steel back spacer.

All M4 models have high-mounted pocket/gear clips.

So here you have a friendly E.D.C. knife that fits the hand naturally for all kinds of cutting and carving tasks. Like Kit, it's a bit unassuming, but it's a knife you'll come back to year after year.

I do not leave the house with out a knife in my pocket, and it has been this way for years. I bought two of The Kit Carson's M4-02w because they looked cool and I wanted to try The Out-Burst Assist Opening. I gave one to my son. I bought four other different knifes to give a way at Christmas to my buddy's. I started carrying my M4-02w right after Christmas and LOVE it. It is a High quality knife and carry it every day. Two weeks ago I saw one of my friends that I had given one of the other knife to. When he saw the Kit Carson knife and the OBA he went nuts and would not give me my knife back. He loved it that much. I have known he for 40 year so we are very good friends. last week I bought 3 more because they are one of the best knifes I have ever owned. And I know what is going to happen.

I have purchased from CRKT a number of times and have been pleased with the quality of its products. I received this knife as a gift. It is beautiful, well designed and the workmanship is great. It has a nice heft and the LAWK is a great safety feature. I do find that the OutBurst feature is a bit lax. It is hard to rotate the blade using the thumb stud and when the OutBurst kicks in, the blade opens 2/3 of the way and I have too manually guide it the rest of the way. In doing so, it is easy to accidentally push on the sharp blade rather than the thumb stud. May just be an adjustment problem, I don't know. That being said, it is the most beautiful and robust pocket knife that I have ever owned... I've had it for three months and still take it out of my pocket on occasion to just look at it CRKT RESPONSE: Hello- thank you for the review. I am sorry to say it sounds like the Outburst feature on your knife is not working properly and needs to be fixed. We would be happy to repair the knife for you, all you need to do is send the knife into our warranty department and we can get it fixed for you. Please fill out our warranty form located on this page:http://www.crkt.com/warranty and send it in with your knife. We will take care of everything from there.

Best pocket knife of all time. My Grandfather and Father carried pocket knives but they were more like stilettos. This is the most beautiful knife and practical. Angus beef to bag of fertilizer

I'm not sure where to begin. It looks beautiful, opens and closes smoothly, it's incredibly solid and I'm not afraid of it snapping shut on my fingers. Every time I take it out people ask me where I got it. I love this knife I received it as a gift and I use it every day... Though sometimes I think it's almost to pretty to use.
