(M1603Z) M16 Zytel - Designed by Kit Carson
M1603Z description
For years, Kit Carson's M16® designs have been our most popular series. And our Zytel® version has built the largest user base of all. These knives are built for function, not fad. And they are exceptional values.

The M16®-03Z and M16®-13Z are slim designs with spear point blades. They are ideal for a variety of carry positions.

They use our very successful InterFrame construction, tough, textured Zytel® scales over a 420J2 stainless steel liner InterFrame. We overbuild it for rigidity, using solid Zytel back spacers. And we assemble the handle with superior offset Torx® fasteners. The handle is exceptionally rigid and fills the hand perfectly.

We use our tough AUS 4 high-carbon stainless steel for the blades to give greater everyday utility, and offer both Razor-Sharp and Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point Serrated edges.

All models feature the Carson Flipper, which is not only an aid to opening the blade, especially when wearing gloves, but acts as a blade guard when the blade is open.

We've also incorporated our patented* AutoLAWKS automatic knife safety into all models, which converts the M16 Zytel series into virtual fixed blades when their blades are open and locked.

All styles have Teflon® bearings and a removable Teflon®-plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip.

Think of the M16-Zytel as a Clydesdale—ready to rush a knight into battle or pull a beer wagon. Every day. Day after day.

*U.S. Patent Nos. 5,596,808 and 7,437,822

I don't care for the auto lawks safety. I don't like having to use two hands to close the blade. I had the M16 before that, that didn't have the new lock on it. But over all it is a grate every day carry I like It for that it is Fast opening, perfect size for my hand pocket. *****CRKT RESPONSE: AutoLawks is still one hand closing. It's been a long time since I had a knife for every day carry, but this knife has been worth the wait. Fast opening, perfect size for my hand, and the dual locks puts my mind at ease. Quite possibly the best knife I've ever owned.

I love this knife. I used to buy a lot of knives when I was a kid, but I usually based my purchases on which knife looked coolest. I ended up with a lot of crappy knives that way. This knife was one of my first serious knife purchases, and I couldn't be happier. I got mine before the autolawks, and I'm kind of glad, because I don't think I'd like to release two locks to close the knife. My only tiny complaint about the knife is that the holes in the handle tend to gather a lot of pocket lint. If you're really a stickler for cleanliness, it's not so bad though, because this knife is easily taken completely apart, which is something I really appreciate in any product. Thanks for a great knife The only way this knife could get any better is if it were free

I bought one of these in Dec 1998 and have carried it every day since then. I've used it while working every job from security to pipe layer to rigger and it's not let me down once yet. The only problem I ever had was that the pocket clip fell off and got lost but CRKT sent me a new one no problem and it was back where it belonged. Not only would I replace it if anything happened to it but I have recommended it to all of my friends and family. It's almost an appendage now it's been with me for so long. Thank you CRKT and good work Mr. Carson, this is the best tool I own. Dave

loved this knife. was first good knife i have. mine was before the autolawk system, but still an awesome knife. i've put used this knife alot and it impresses me sometimes how much it can take. only down side is that the locking mechanism has slipped once on me. aside from that, i'd buy this knife again and again.

I had(lost somewhere during warranty repairs)this knife, but w/ carbon fiber scales and w/out Auto LAWKS or the flipper/guard (bought it around 10 yrs ago), essentially one of the 1st M16s with the exact same blade/finish. I carried that knife every day for a decade and even when I sent it in for warranty repairs it was still reasonably solid when held open just by the liner lock. But the liner lock began to slip slightly (never failing, just too much play for a $130 CDN knife to have, especially because you CAN NOT find the C/F handle M16s ANYwhere, new or used). I do have the model above and it's a great work knife or secondary EDC and it's still nice and tight after alot of use. I wish they stuck w/ the regular LAWKS sytem, it's just MHO and experience as a SERIOUS knife collector.

Getting introduced to the AutoLawks was easy. For me, the handle on this knife is small,I prefer a larger grip. The Flip is ballanced to perfection. I will continue to purchase knives made by CRKT.

I have bought this knife three times due to the fact that I have given it away twice as a gift for a friend. It is without a doubt one of the best knives I have ever owned. It is easy to sharpen, holds and edge and does not let you down.

I just bought this knife today and let me tell you, I'm pretty impressed. With this new locking system, When it's locked, It's locked. The blade doesn't wiggle at all and it really is just like a fixed blade. I also love this zytel finish. And good balance too. Good job, CRKT.
