(M1603Z) M16 Z - Designed by Kit Carson
M1603Z description
For years, Kit Carson's M16® designs have been our most popular series. And our Z version has built the largest user base of all. These knives are built for function, not fad. And they are exceptional values.

The M16®-03Z and M16®-13Z are slim designs with spear point blades. They are ideal for a variety of carry positions.

They use our very successful InterFrame construction, tough, textured glass filled nylon scales over a 420J2 stainless steel liner InterFrame. We overbuild it for rigidity, using solid glass filled nylon back spacers. And we assemble the handle with superior offset Torx® fasteners. The handle is exceptionally rigid and fills the hand perfectly.

We use our tough AUS 4 high-carbon stainless steel for the blades to give greater everyday utility, and offer both Razor-Sharp and Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point Serrated edges.

All models feature the Carson Flipper, which is not only an aid to opening the blade, especially when wearing gloves, but acts as a blade guard when the blade is open.

We've also incorporated our patented* AutoLAWKS automatic knife safety into all models, which converts the M16 Z series into virtual fixed blades when their blades are open and locked.

All styles have lubrous washers and a removable stainless steel clothing/gear clip.

Think of the M16-Z as a Clydesdale—ready to rush a knight into battle or pull a beer wagon. Every day. Day after day.

*U.S. Patent Nos. 5,596,808 and 7,437,822

I bought a M16-13Z 7 years ago. At the time I was unfamiliar with CRKT, but of all the knifes I looked at that day I kept going back to the M16. It had all the features I wanted and although I wasn't familier with CRKT at the time, the quality of the design as well as the integrity of the materials used made it stand out among the rest. I carried that knife for 4 years hiking, rafting, kayaking, hunting, fishing, climbing, and of course working before it was confiscated at an airport security line when I failed to check it in my bag. During the 4 day wait for my replacement to come in the mail I realized how dependent I had become on that knife, so much that I even considered buying a backup incase I ever encountered a similar situation. After 7 years I cant imagine carrying anything less.

I purchased my m16-13Z on Camp Pendleton in 2002. Prior to deploying to Iraq with the Marines. I carried it nearly every day since. A friend of mine was sick of hearing me praise this knife that he got one to show me it was not as good as his Benchmade. Last week he gave me an M16-10Z as an appology. I love that my 13Z does not however have the auto lock. I also received from him a parts kit, but found that the screws for the clip were too long, so I used the 2 old ones that I still had. Love your knives and thank you for keeping them so affordable and great quality. I am a customer for ever. and apparently a salesman. Thanks again. ***CRKT RESPONSE - Thank you for your review. Just wanted to let you know you can order any parts you may need for your CRKT knife at http://www.crktparts.com/. Thank you for your service. We will replace any parts for free. Thanks, CRKT

Five years ago, my uncle handed me this knife to take with me to Basic Training. Five long years later, including time spent in NavSpecWar and Naval Intelligence, and it has served me well, sitting in front of me, as I just cleaned it. I pulled the spring, because, honestly, the double lock is a hassle unless I need it open for an extended period of time, but that's personal preference. Best folder ever, and when you have it being passed around a room of operators, who need folders that work, every time, and their comments are all the same, that's when you really know for sure. ****CRKT RESPONSE Thank you for your service from all of us here at CRKT.

This knife has a stellar design highlighted by the easy-open stud. I truly love the knife but I wish CRKT would have opted to make it out of a better steel. Granted, 4A is tough enough and it sure is not going to rust short of being left outside for months, but for taking an edge and holding it I find it significantly lacking. Making it out of superior stainless such as 154CM, BG-42,or S30V would raise the price notably, and probably alienate the target market, but I think 8A or 440-C would have made a noticeably better blade/knife and probably wouldn't raise the price to exorbitantly. Maybe some day. ***CRKT RESPONSE - We felt the 8Cr15Mov was a great balance of edge retention and durability. Please take a look at Steel Facts when you get the opportunity and you can see more insight into the reasons why this particular steel was chosen. http://www.crkt.com/steelfacts Thank you, CRKT

Great knife. Looked at many before making this choice. I would have given it 6 stars if you could use the thumb stud like normal folders. I guess it a easy fix for CRKT just need to remove a bit if plastic on the handle to make the stud availible to your thumb.

This is one great knife It has been with me on countless hikes, hunting trips, and fishing adventures. Not to mention the every day cutting jobs. This is a knife that you can give some abuse and will still keep coming through for you when you need it to. Some people do not like the autoLAWKS, which is on this knife, but I find it to give more confidence that the knife will not close on my fingers. Yes it does take longer to close, but I sill like the tradeoff for safety. One last thing, please do your self the favor of not getting your mind stuck on this one knife. Look at some of the other variations that CRKT has in the M16 and M21 line. They all are the same basic design, but with different materials and in smaller or bigger sizes. Over all this is a 5 star knife in a 5 star knife line

A great knife. I gave my daughter my M16-01Z and replaced it with M16 Zytel. It may be too big for daily carry, but is great for the field. I will definitely buy another M16-01z for daily work. Best pocket-knife made.

This Knife is very nice. Light wieght but feels like it has alot of backbone. Opens like an assisted opening knife, holds a nice sharp edge. I carry this knife every day. Perfect in the pocket and in your hand. I would purchase this knife again, and would like to see it in a drop point

This knife turned out to be everything I hoped it would be. This is the most practical knife I've ever owned. It's tough and light and easy to carry. It is easy to get to quickly and open single-handed when in a hurry. I just hope I don't lose it like I do with most of the knives I like. My next one will be the M-21 G10.
