Those with a military background know what it means to earn the rank of Sergeant Major. After Kit Carson retired from the U.S. Army at that rank, he became a custom knifemaker, and began making his custom M16® models for his former colleagues.
His M16®-14M model is identical in construction to the popular CRKT aluminum M16, offering the same sure-grip contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized in Olive Drab. The stainless steel locking liners with friction grooves are also black.
The blade is imprinted with Gary Paul Johnston's 1* (one-ass-to-risk) reminder logo and has an AUS 8 stainless steel blade with Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edge, chosen for edge retention and durability. Black titanium nitride coating gives superior corrosion resistance. It features the Carson Flipper extension to the blade, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.
The M16®-14M Big Dog is a hefty, full-size working knife with an extra-strong dual grind Tanto blade.
One-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth, the result of lubrous washers at the blade pivot. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides instant access in any circumstance.
It features our patented* AutoLAWKS™ safety, which automatically turns the folder into a fixed blade when the blade is opened and locked.
Each model also has a removable black stainless steel clothing/gear clip.
In 2004, Germany's Messer magazine conducted an exhaustive comparison test of six leading tactical folders. On the basis of blade and pivot strength, retention of cutting edge, action, and value, Messer's editors declared, "The Columbia River M16 took the award . . . The quality control of this knife was flawless."
If you serve in the military, be careful out there! Carry one of the 1* M16 folders. Designed for those who serve.
I have owned this knife for several years. I am continually impressed by the quality and all my buddies keep trying to inherit it. haha. But seriously I have used it daily and it holds a good edge and is still tight no wobble or noticeable wear in the blade pivot point. I used to be a Buck and occasionally Gerber knife only man. But now I like my CRT's above them both, and I am a picky knife guy.
This knife come with my highest recommendations for anyone who wants a tactical folder for the field. It hasn't let me down yet.
