At the request of those in the emergency services field, we have modified some of our most successful designs for these rugged applications. Handles have scales of tough glass filled nylon in high-visibility orange. We have chosen tough blade steels to withstand abuse, and given them a polished finish to resist corrosion. Finally, we have priced them to be as affordable as possible.
M16®-13Z E.R. This mid-size M16 with spear point blade is a perennial favorite, with all the trademark Kit Carson features. The Carson Flipper allows instant one-hand opening, and also acts as a blade guard when open. The Combination Triple-Point™ Serrated edge speeds cutting through cord and vegetation. A stainless steel pocket/gear clip and our exclusive patented* AutoLAWKS™ automatic safety are also standard.
It uses our very successful InterFrame construction, tough, textured glass filled nylon scales over a 420J2 stainless steel liner InterFrame. We overbuild it for rigidity, using solid glass filled nylon back spacers. And we assemble the handle with superior offset Torx® fasteners. The handle is exceptionally rigid and fills the hand perfectly.
We use our tough AUS 4 high-carbon stainless steel for the blade to give it greater everyday utility.
The Carson Flipper is not only an aid to opening the blade, especially when wearing gloves, but acts as a blade guard when the blade is open.
We've also incorporated our patented* AutoLAWKS™ automatic knife safety into this model, which converts the M16®-13Z E.R into a virtual fixed blade when its blade is open and locked.
It has lubrous washers and a removable stainless steel clothing/gear clip.
This is an okay knife as far as knives are concerned.
If you are looking to replace the discontinued M16-13FD however, you will be disappointed. This knife lacks the AUS 8 Titanium Nitride finished blade and it's orange "Home Depot bucket" color will guarantee that it will not only be highly visible but ostentatiously visible.

great knife, comes razor sharp and fits very comfortably in your waistband. first knife i have seen with auto-lawks and love the idea, nothing worse than when you are going to use a folding knife and it closes on you.

I like to have a knife around for everyday use and I like to have one that has style. This one works perfectly for me. I use it just about everyday and it holds it edge. Great knife. I would recommend this to knife to those who need a knife for everyday use.

The M16-13ZER is a great knife. It comes fairly sharp out of the box. The knife hones and sharpens redily and holds its edge decently. The orange handles are great for visibility. If there is any one surefire feature about this knife is that you have to be near blind to lose it :D
