Jim Hammond is an active outdoorsman as well as a custom knifemaker and Knifemakers' Guild member. When his diving and whitewater friends pointed out the need for a better multipurpose fixed blade, he developed his custom A.B.C. (All Bases Covered) knife/sheath system. The CRKT production versions are faithful to Jim's designs and priced to put them within reach of everyone who depends on a knife for work, survival and rescue.
The dual-grind Tanto A.B.C. Operator's Model is an ideal general purpose fixed blade for special forces operators, as well as hikers, climbers, pilots, parachutists, and regulary military personnel.
The bottom hollow ground Razor-Sharp edge is suited to fine cutting tasks. The top Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edge is ideal for rapid rough cutting through cord, nets, and other entanglements.
The blade is a full-tang skeletonized design of premium AUS 8 stainless steel. For maximum corrosion resistance, the steel is first mirror polished to close the pores, and then black titanium nitride coated. The finger choils are heavily friction grooved for sure grip.
The black injection-molded Zytel® scales have an aggressive texture, and they are held in place with corrosion-resistant stainless steel Torx® fasteners.
The Zytel sheath with dual attachment panels and black stainless spring steel clip allows eight carry modes and countless variations. Black finish brass Chicago screws allow adjustment of the knife compression fit into the sheath. Equally important, they are used for a multitude of attachment orientations: on webbing, with leg straps, on PFDs, or with a neck cord.
Strong. Simple. Versatile. Extremely corrosion resistant. All bases covered.

I love this blade. The handle is very comfortable, the style of the knife is sexy, and the function is great. I used this knife for many years doing electrical type construction tasks, before it got stolen. I wasn't too excited about the sheath but it is nice to have options, I personally used a kydex sheath that hugged the blade perfectly, I really miss this knife. I will replace it eventually.

In addition to the other wonderful reasons given by other reviewers to buy this knife, i want to say that the way the sheath is designed is very good for concealed carry self protection. Inside the belt carry is very comfortable and the knife will lay flat against your body. Always lets you know its there. Additionally as a law enforcement officer I carry this knife as a 'last option' self protection measure and the serrated edge on the top is useful for cutting seatbelts or damn near anything else. Lastly the flat black finish comes in handy to avoid glinting.

This is by far my favorite knife of all time. It fits well in the hand, it can actually be mounted in any orientation to just about anything (unlike most 'tactical' sheaths), and it just the right size and weight for trail carry, kayaking, or diving without always being in the way.
The serrations on the back side are far enough forward so you still have a bit of a thumb shelf, which comes in handy quite often.

Great as an all around knife. Even good for diving. A less bulky sheath design would be nice. The plus side of the sheath is that it can be mounted anywhere and in any manner.

Just ordered this knife recently for a possible EDC and hiking knife. Grip is far more comfortable than I expected and having the serrated edge not in combination with the razor is so nice. I can see now why most military/survival knives are setup in a similar mannor.
Jim Hammond, CRKT,
Great Job
Thank you.

I love the knife. It definately lives up to it's name Sheath is a little bit much, but I've always liked simple belt loop sheaths. It is definately versitile and hooked onto my go bag with ease.
Overall, Jim Hammond did a great job. Had it been a true file knife you'd likely have a hard time keeping them in stock
