As you know, Barry Gallagher is well known for his award-winning high-end custom art knives. So we had a special challenge in producing Barry's new Rave™ design at a quality level that would satisfy him, while keeping the price low enough to satisfy you.
It features our patented OutBurst™ assisted opening with the patent-pending Fire Safe™ mechanism. When closed, the blade is safely locked by the Fire Safe pin. It cannot be opened until the safety button on the end of the thumb stud is firmly depressed and the thumb stud is nudged outward. Then the blade springs open instantly for use. Yes, this is a design for right-hand opening, but it is the best integration of folder safety and fast access that we have ever seen in sport and work folders. Caution: When closing the knife, always press firmly to fully close the blade, and be sure the Fire Safe pin locks into place securely with an audible "click".
Barry says he designed this new folder to be an all-around outdoor utility knife, light (2.4 oz.) and small enough to carry every day. The 2.88" clip point blade of premium 8Cr14MoV stainless steel with a high flat grind will do it all, from opening mail to cleaning fish to field dressing game.
The Rave has our rigid InterFrame stainless steel build, with innovative wave-patterned scales that are hand-shaped from layered black/gray linen resin impregnated fiber. They are not there for visual effect, but to aid grip. No matter how you turn the Rave, there are always deep grooves for your fingers and thumb.
We also added a custom removable polished stainless steel pocket/gear clip.
The effect from the Rave is indistinguishable from the best custom builds. You can tell your friends that it's a Barry Gallagher design, but you don't have to mention the very affordable price.
Ok, this could be a really great little knife. It looks awesome, has wonderfully a ergonomic design to the scales and a very functional clip point blade. Mine fires well and locks up great as does all of my other CRKT knives with OutBurst. The problem with this knife is that they extended the liner lock outward from the scale right where the index finger choil is. When you hold the knife properly in your hand, the liner lock digs into your finger. It's really pretty uncomfortable. It's obvious why CRKT did this. The way the knife is designed there is no way that the Fire Safe stud would have engaged the liner lock if they hadn't extended it. Personally I would have much rather had a fixed thumb stud without the Fire Safe than a knife that is uncomfortable to use.

I have a lot of CRKT knives and I've never been disappointed by them. The Rave is easily my favorite. Perfect size and weight for an EDC. Definitely the prettiest. I get more compliments and requests to look at it than any other knife I use. It does take a little bit of practice to open easily. I'm a female and not very strong, but I soon got the hang of it. If I can do it, anyone can. And I love how it opens with a satisfying "click" sound. Overall, a hell of a knife. You won't be disappointed.

nice looking knife-the knife took a little practice to open quickly at first,but i soon became pretty good at opening. would recommend the knife.
